HEY!

1. I have had a whole week of summer vacation. It has been the most wonderful time of the year. I spent two whole days catching up on chores and otherwise being lazy. But that got old fast. Now I've got some stuff planned.

2. We have been watching Falling Skies Season 1. Love it. It is like The Walking Dead, except with Aliens and less blood. I love TNT.

3. I have 12 books checked out from the library right now. And I want to read all of them. This is what happens when all the books I place holds on become available at the exact same time. I am going to spend one day next week just reading.

4. I am going to build some furniture with my brother this summer for our apartment. I hate spending $40 on a bookshelf that is basically crap and will fall apart. I would rather spend $40 on a piece of furniture that is made with real wood.

5. I made Chris a White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake for his birthday. It was pretty awesome.

TV Couples

I'm doing a bottle post.

I did this a bit ago.  But there are some TV couples I actually love.

Commercial

I didn't watch the Superbowl so I didn't see this commercial. But it is my favorite. I love NBC and if I could only watch 3 channels, NBC would be one of them.




It makes me extremely happy to see Community here.

Another List

1. As long as you read books, I don't judge you, mostly. Unless you read Extreme Conservative Non-Fiction, Weird Self-Help books and Romance novels (as in real romance novels, not two people fall in love novels.) You might as well have a sign that says "Idiot."

2. I wrote this whole post on being a teacher and how I was frustrated that people discredit teachers as real people and that teacher's jobs are so easy. But it was a little rant-y, so I deleted it. Can we all just agree that everyone's job is hard? Unless you get to pet puppies all day long. If you really thing teacher's jobs are easy, let me know. I'll give you my rant.

3. A combination of Downton Abbey and reading a prequel to Pride and Prejudice and Zombies has me re-reading Pride and Prejudice. I like it so much better this time around.

4. The best part of the Super Bowl is the food. And I had no idea what a safety was until last night.

5. Downton Abbey is really good. And the first season in on Netflix streaming. Always a bonus.

Tuesday Notes

1. Revenge is coming back. Next week.

2. Community is also coming back. But no date has been set yet.

3. I worked out 3 times this week. And on one night we went to the track and did bleachers and lunges. I am still sore. But we did set two days a week to always go to the track. Apparently I like to torture myself. And running is torture.

4. I am going to run a 5k. I want to run the Blue Bell 5k in April. After you finish you get to eat all the Blue Bell you want. That is according to the website anyways.

5. One month down in the new year and I am rocking most of my resolutions. I have read 10 books this month, I have been working out, and I started trying to knit. I can only get the yarn on one needle, not the other. But I'll figure it out. 

TV

Someone at work said the other day that TV today isn't what it used to be.

Well, it isn't, but who said that is a bad thing?

Yes, this is premiere week for like every TV show I love. And all the new ones I am super excited about.

Too Young

I was going to show a video to my students for Constitution day yesterday. (We didn't get to watch it because they would not stop talking! But that is besides the point)

It was a clip from 1776 the musical which has Mr. Feeny in it. I asked them if they had heard of the show Boy Meet World. And not one student had. How horrible is that!

Lost Finale

Yes, it's been over three weeks but I wanted to give everyone a chance to watch the finale before I spoiled it  I'm lazy.

Short answer: I loved it.

I have not been an avid watcher of Lost. Chris and I started watching it a year ago mostly because Blockbuster had a special of renting as many DVDs as you wanted in one week for $10. We couldn't decided on any other TV show, so we picked Lost.

I will still say that I am glad I didn't start at the beginning. I would have given up on the show at the beginning where you find out something new once every couple of episodes.

But now it's over. And I am watching them all again because they are all on Netflix.

So, what is it all about? I think there are two aspects of the show. The science fiction and the characters. I watched the show for the science fiction. What is the island? Who is Jacob? What is he protecting? How did they all get there?...

I went into the finale expecting a supernatural storyline. But instead it was focused on the characters and their life journey. They all where brought to the island because they were alone in the world. Someone probably noticed they were gone after the crash, but not enough to be devastated by it. But throughout the last season, they had to have a connection with their fellow castaways before they could remember and move on. Clarie, Kate and Charlie were connected by Clarie going into labor. Sawyer and Juliet were connected by their love. (They are my favorite couple.) Jin and Sun are connected when they see their baby during and ultrasound. They all had someone to live for, and to me that is beautiful.

What I was most afraid of was that what happened on the island would not have actually happened. Jack and Desmond actually had a moment when they explained to each other what they were doing. Desmond was trying to make it all disappear and not be real but Jack says "“There are no shortcuts, no do-overs – what happened, happened. All of this matters.”"

I was totally cheering inside. I didn't want what they went through to be for nothing.

And finally, what I changed my mind about. Anytime someone I liked died, in the back of my head I knew it was okay because they would be back. But when I realized at the end that Charlie and Claire never made it off the island together and Jin never got to meet his daughter, it was heartbreaking. But so much better. Most of the people who died on the island, died sacrificing themselves for the greater good. And to bring them back like that didn't happen would make what they sacrificed for seem less important.

Those are all my thoughts. If you love a good story and good television, watch Lost. Now you won't have to wait six years for answer. There are still some unanswered questions, but for now I am okay with that.

LOST

Tonight is the night. I am so super duper excited to know what is going to happen. I am trying not to get my hopes too much just in case I get disappointed.

But still. T-minus 3.5 hours.

American Idol, I hate you.

American Idol,

You should just quit and stop airing. Nobody likes you anymore. You jumped the shark years ago when everybody started sucking. And stop going over (using the excuse that you are a live show) and make my DVR miss the last 5 minutes of Glee. Just tell Ryan and Kara to stop talking and then you will have enough time!

Couples

I think I am weird sometimes. Like on TV, I am against some of the obvious couples who are supposed to be together.

Example One: Glee

Am I the only person in the world who doesn't want these two together? I think so. He should stay with his wife! I know she was crazy and she faked a pregnancy. But she thought that will was going to leave her! She did it to bring them closer together. When you think of it that way, they should try to work it out. She should get some professional help, but they should work it out.

Example Two: Psych

I just don't buy it. I think Juliet should end up with Gus or Lassiter.  I know, I'm weird. Although, I think that I can eventually get behind this romance. Just not yet.

Movies

Is anyone else disappointed with movies lately? Chris and I have gone to a few matinees in the past few weeks. We've seen The Lovely Bones, When in Rome, and The Lightning Thief. It's like people don't know how to make good movies anymore. Mostly, I think that it is because I need more out of entertainment.

I love books and I love television. Both give you time to learn about the characters and feel for them and watch them grow, etc. I love the relationship you get with characters in those two forms of entertainment.

Maybe I expect to much out of movies. There are a few movies that I am excited for about this year. Harry Potter, Toy Story 3. But besides that, I am more excited for the final season of Lost.

Commercials

Is it weird that we will Tivo "Greatest Commercials of the Decade" so we can watch it later without the commercials?

Wrap your mind around that.

Also, someone in Canada got to my blog by searching my name. I don't care, just comment and tell me who you are. I didn't apply for any job in Canada, so I don't think it is a future employer looking me up.

Spoilers

I think that if someone if going to post spoilers on their blog, they should warn people.

Or wait a week after said thing happened. I have Tivo and can watch things later. And usually do. I don't know who got kicked off some show or that some character died.

Jack Bauer or Sydney Bristow?

Sydney Bristow. No doubt.

She could find and disarm a nuclear bomb in just one episode. And beat up anybody who stands in her way. Which she actually did.

Glee

If you aren't watching Glee, you should be. I like baseball live, so when it comes to Glee and the World Series... I would rather watch Glee.

We listen to the songs all the time. I think this is my favorite.

Pushing Daisies

I think one of the greatest travesties in television history is the canceling of Pushing Daisies. It was such an odd wonderful show and I miss it. I always hope those tv people who cancel shows will see the error of their ways and bring the good ones back. I am keeping my fingers crossed for this one.

What I Hate

"Previously on...(Fill in TV on DVD show name.)"

Seriously. I am watching the whole season of the show with hardly any breaks. Why on every episode? I don't need the DVD reminding what happened last episode... The one I just watched.

Gilmore Girls doesn't have it. The Office doesn't have it. Early Edition doesn't have it. And neither does Friends.

I wish there was an option to turn it off.

P.S. I like are the ones in front of Supernatural. Because they play good music and get you excited for the episode.
